Jonathan Farbowitz

Jonathan Farbowitz is currently a Conservator of Time-Based Media at The Metropolitan Museum of Art where he cares for the film, video, audio, slide, and software-based artworks in the collection. Since joining The Met in 2019, Jonathan has established a media conservation lab and digital storage practices for artwork. He continues to educate staff across the institution about the preservation concerns of time-based media artworks. From 2016 to 2019 Jonathan was a Fellow in the Conservation of Computer-Based Art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum where he addressed the conservation needs of over twenty software-based artworks and was part of an interdisciplinary team that restored the museum’s three web artworks. Jonathan has lectured internationally on conservation and digital preservation and was an adjunct professor at New York University. He holds an MA in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation from New York University and a BA in Film from Vassar College.
