Gwynne Ryan
Gwynne Ryan is an independent conservator specializing in contemporary art and large scale outdoor sculpture with a research focus on exploring the intersection between the conservator’s practice and the artist’s creative process. From 2009-2019 Gwynne was the Head of Conservation and the Sculpture Conservator at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden where she played a leadership role in the Smithsonian’s pan institutional Time-Based Media Art working group, was instrumental in the development of the Museum’s artist interview program along with the expansion of the conservation staff to include its first Variable Media Conservator. Gwynne received her Masters of Science Degree in Art Conservation from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation in 2001 and subsequently served in the conservation laboratories at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
