Mira Friedlaender

Mira Friedlaender is an artist and independent scholar of art stewardship who has exhibited locally and internationally. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Bomb and Art Journal; She has held residencies and visiting artist appointments including a Session at Recess in New York, where her project Half of What’s There foregrounded the labor and meaning of archiving, storage, and artistic legacy. As Director of the Estate of Bilge Friedlaender, Mira has brought the artwork of her late mother from obscurity to rediscovery with exhibitions in Turkey and the U.S.. She has co-curated exhibitions including Bilgé Friedlaender: Words, Numbers, Lines in Istanbul and has contributed to broader conversations on archives and artistic labor through The Art & Law Program, Hauser & Wirth Institute, Brooklyn Rail and others. She co-ran the beloved Brooklyn restaurant Little Dishes (now closed,) has managed exhibitions and productions for numerous cultural organizations in New York and is currently the Director of Institutional Events & Operations at CAA. Mira holds a BA in religious studies from Tufts University, a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, with a concentration in printing making and photography, and her MFA in visual art from NYU.  Mira lives in Brooklyn with her family.
